Listserv Guidelines
The ComPrev Listserv is moderated. Each message is read and evaluated before being approved and sent to the whole list. Reasons that a message may be rejected include:
- Messages to a specific person that was mistakenly sent to the whole list.
- Messages containing little or no valuable content (e.g. a brief thank you).
- Messages that are off-topic.
- Messages containing or linking to inappropriate content.
- Messages containing or linking to advertisements.
- Messages containing whole news articles (to avoid any copyright infringement).
- Messages that degrade or attack a specific person or organization.
- Messages which advocate and/or promote organizations or positions that could increase drug use, or run counter to the spirit of the listserv.
Common Issues
Here are some common issues that members encounter when using the listserv.
I tried to send a message to one person and it went to the whole list.
When you hit reply in your e-mail program (e.g. Outlook, Yahoo!, etc.) it automatically fills in the list address. To reply to an individual it is recommended that you open a new e-mail and cut and paste the person’s address into the to field.
I received the following error “Only members of ondcpcomprev are allowed to contribute messages” when I tried to send a message to the list.
You can only send messages to the list from the address you signed up with. For example if you signed up with your work account you cannot send messages from your home account.
Why can't I log in to the ListManager?

Viewing Past Messages
Past messages sent to the list may be viewed by accessing the List Manager. When you arrive at this page you will be prompted to enter your e-mail address and your password. Once you are logged in you will be on the "Messages" screen where you can sort and browse past messages. You can also perform a keyword search of past messages by clicking on the "Search" tab at the top of the screen. For information on List Manager take the tour.
Changing E-mail Settings
You may set how you want to receive messages from ComPrev. Access the List Manager and click on the "My Account" tab at the top of the page. From this page you will be able to choose your "Membership Type" for this list. If you want to receive one daily message from ComPrev we suggest the Digest option. When you choose the digest option, each night you will receive a single email message containing all the messages contributed to the mailing list that day. At the top of the message will be a numbered list of the subjects in that digest, followed by the complete messages themselves. Note: for this option attachments sent to the list may not come through. If you wish to continue to receive messages as they come do nothing and this will continue. For information on List Manager and other digest options take the tour.

From this screen you can update your membership type. If you wish to receive one daily digest message containing all the messages for that day just select Digest from the drop down list of Membership Types.
After selecting Digest click on the Save Changes button (
). Below is a description of what each Membership Type option will provide you. Normal
As soon as someone contributes a message to the mailing list, the user will receive a copy of that message.
Digest
Each night the user will receive a single email message containing all the messages contributed to the mailing list that day. At the top of the message will be a numbered list of the subjects in that digest, followed by the complete messages themselves.
MIME Digest
The same as a digest, but in MIME format so that the individual messages' formatting is preserved.
Index
Each night, around 1 in the morning, the user will receive a single email message containing all the subject lines of all the messages contributed to the mailing list that day. If any of the messages interest the user, the bottom of the index gives the email command that will retrieve the bodies of the messages. You may also view messages by signing into the List Manager page (see Number 3 above).
Nomail
No email is sent to the user. The user is free to go the web interface whenever they want, and read the full text of the messages there. This setting is also useful for people who want the ability to contribute to a mailing list, but do not care to see the contributions to the mailing list or who wish to suspend mail temporarily.
