DR. ANDREA BARTHWELL TO LEAVE AS
ONDCP DEPUTY DIRECTOR
(Washington, DC)Andrea G. Barthwell, MD, F.A.S.A.M., resigned her position today as the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy's Deputy Director for Demand Reduction. Dr. Barthwell served in the post since January 28, 2002. A longtime advocate of evidenced-based treatment for substance abusers, Dr. Barthwell has been recognized in her field as a champion of prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery.
Commenting on Dr. Barthwell's tenure at ONDCP, John Walters, Director of National Drug Control Policy said, "Through her tireless service to this Nation, Andrea Barthwell has helped to educate Americans about the harms of illegal drugs. Her passion for protecting the health of all Americans has been inspiring. We wish her well in her future endeavors."
Reflecting on her service at ONDCP, Dr. Barthwell said, "I was given an opportunity by President Bush to serve our country at a critical time. I am proud of the progress we have made under the leadership of President Bush and ONDCP Director John Walters."
