WHITE HOUSE DRUG POLICY DIRECTOR TO HONOR CHARITABLE FOUNDATION FOR ANTI-DRUG ACCOMPLISHMENTS
AWARDS PRESENTATION TO COMMENCE AT 10:30 A.M., THURSDAY, JUNE 14TH, FOUR SEASONS HOTEL, LAS VEGAS
(Washington, D.C.)—Edward H. Jurith, Acting Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy will present a special recognition award to the Substance Abuse Foundation for Education and Research (SAFER) for their commitment and dedication in teaching students and families about the dangers of substance abuse. The presentation will take place on Thursday, June 14th at 10:30 a.m. in the Acacia Room of the Four Seasons, 3960 Las Vegas Blvd. The event will be open to the press with a media availability to follow.
Jurith said, "We must continue to send youth consistent messages about the dangers of drug abuse and empower parents to keep their kids drug-free. Early childhood is a perfect time for prevention that targets risk factors. Specially crafted education programs and prevention interventions like SAFER send effective community-wide anti-drug messages. We commend SAFER on their outstanding efforts to enhance substance abuse awareness in the community and provide families with valuable drug-abuse prevention techniques."
SAFER was founded by the Substance Abuse Program Administrators Association (SAPAA) as a non-profit, charitable trust. SAFER charters substance abuse education and prevention programs for school-aged children and their families, in hopes of eliminating violence and creating a drug-free workforce for the future. The SAFER sponsored "Families for Prevention" initiative was recently implemented in Baltimore, Maryland where the school-based program successfully reaches parents in their homes and targets underlying causes for youth drug abuse.
